You could use Cairns or Port Douglas as a base or perhaps Palm Cove or Trinity Beach in between. Take your time, there’s a lot to do in TNQ. In Cairns you can get out to a couple of accessible islands (Fitzroy and Green), hop into some soft adventure, check out attractions like Skyrail and then get out and about.

Head south to Mission Beach (2 hours 10 mins), and then back up to explore the Atherton Tablelands.

To Port Douglas if you’re not already there – there are excellent attractions like the Rainforest Habitat and it’s a cosmopolitan coastal town. Take a day trip to the Outer Barrier Reef.

Head to Mossman Gorge and/or the Daintree Rainforest and on to Cape Tribulation. Spend the night or two up here – there’s nowhere like it.
