Perth & Rottnest Island
If you want to relax in style, the Hyatt Regency is an award-winning five star property, minutes from the CBD, looking up the Swan River. More on the Hyatt Regency here. But whatever your budget there’s a range of good accommodation close to the heart of the city. Rottnest Island is great for a day trip, but also for a night or two to get away from it all at Rottnest Island Lodge.
Margaret River
Here you have a choice of B & B and cottage style accommodation close to the beaches and the wineries. One I really like is Basildene Manor - with grand old world charm this is 5-star luxury a couple of minutes from Margaret River township. Another favourite is Pinda Lodge. It is a 10-minute drive from the town and less then that from wineries and the beach. If you put a glass to your ear on the balcony you can hear the Margaret River rapids and the sounds of the ocean - or even without the glass.
Inlands and Other Coastal Areas
I’ve never travelled inland with my family, so as is my habit, I’ve always gone for country pub accommodation in places like Kalgoorlie. However, if you want good, reliable and comfortable motel style accommodation, the Best Western chain has the state pretty well covered. They are all locally owned, most have swimming pools and they range from 3 and a half star to 4 and a half stars. You’ll find them in Perth, Bunbury, Margaret River, Pemberton, Albany, Esperance, Kalgoorlie, Cervantes, Geraldton, Kalbarri, Money Mia, Carnarvon, Exmouth, Karratha, Port Hedland, Broome and Kununurra.
At the other end of the scale, there’s always the unique luxury accommodation of El Questro Resort. And one property in Geraldton I’d like to mention is award-winning Greengables Lodge - it’s a well-appointed property and really has a sense of fun. In fact, hosts Henry and Christina demand that guests arrive with a sense of humour.
Also in Geraldton, drop in to the Freemasons’ Hotel - even if it’s just for a bite and a beer and not a bed, Brian, Natalie and the team will make you welcome and it’s a good spot for live bands.
